Economic development
Otto Mora began his career in the Development Sector in 1986, 36 years ago, working as a Cooperative Development Technician at the National Institute of Cooperatives -INACOP- especially with agricultural cooperatives on the south coast, in the Department of Suchitepéquez. Since then he has worked in international cooperation entities (GTZ, ACDI, CECI, SOCODEVI, SHARE, OXFAM, European Union, USAID, FIDA, FAO), in foundations and local NGOs (FUNDAP) and in the General Secretariat of Planning -SEGEPLAN- , both in rural and urban areas, in activities and processes related to local socio-economic development and municipalism, productive, social, organizational processes and conflict management. In the period 1995-2000 he worked in El Salvador, in business training processes promoted by the German Cooperation GTZ and during the years 2001 and 2002 he worked in Argentina, also for the German Cooperation GTZ.
His experience includes conducting economic diagnoses and studies, formulating local economic development plans, economic policy instruments and strategies for their implementation. Management of microfinance programs and the design of programs for the development of opportunities and the generation of jobs and entrepreneurship. (Eg. Youth Business System -SEJ-, PROSOL Project, Sololá, awarded by Fundación CITY, as Financial Innovation of the year 2014). She also has experience in the implementation of governance programs and strengthening of social structures, such as municipal work commissions on economic, environmental and women's participation issues.
He has experience in the design and development of technical and informative documents, on methodological issues (training, planning, monitoring and evaluation), business (administration, costs, finance, marketing), and organizational (teamwork, strategic planning, strategic thinking and systemic), both for people with high academic training and for people with little formal education.
It has specific training for the facilitation of participatory training, organization, planning and evaluation processes, both at a systematic level and at the level of specific workshops (CEFE, MATCOM, ZOPP Methodologies, Logical Framework, Theory of Change, Popular Education) , as well as for the formulation, evaluation and implementation of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, and systematization of processes and experiences, based on participatory mechanisms.
In 2019, he joined VRS Consult, in the areas of Business Development and Local Economic Development, also contributing to the PMD Pro methodological transfer processes.
To date, he has carried out consultancies and training processes in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay, Bolivia and Argentina, as well as in numerous departments in the interior of the country.
He is an Agricultural Economist and has a Master's Degree in Business Administration, as well as a Postgraduate Degree in System Dynamics. He is a doctoral candidate in Complex Thought, with a focus on Economic Development. It has a PMD Pro certificate.
He has been a university professor at three Guatemalan universities (USAC, Mesoamericana and UDEO) and five universities in El Salvador. He has carried out online training processes for the Ibero-American Union of Municipalists, since 2010.
